Here are my first 2 images of the Sun.
The first was taken with my 90mm Mak and the second with my 200mm Newt. The Mak shot was late afternoon yesterday and has a distinct spot of activity ( top right ) whereas the Newt shot was midday today and has no prominent features at all. Also the Mak shot has been processed and coloured, sharpened etc and the Newt shot is unprocessed ( true colour through Baader Astro Film ). I made a full aperture filter for the 90mm Mak and an off axis filter for the Newt so that I can use it on my 8" and 10" scopes. I constructed the off axis filter using a slice off the postal tube the astro film came in and fitted it over the "vent hole" in the newts tube cover as shown. I think I wil make another one in the same way to fit to the 9x50 finderscope as it is the same diameter and it is quite tricky finding the sun by watching shadows. The Mak filter was made from a cream cheese box, the cheese was a tasty bonus as well
I prefer the Newt's field of vision for photography, being able to fit the whole of the Sun in frame while the 90mm Mak is much easier to setup and fine for visual observing. Anyway that's enough raving for one posting. Oh except that I may get a Continuum filter as well .... can't make that !
p.s. This isn't a DIY thread just included the pics to show the filters.
