The gods smiled...then went back to baseline.

Hi All,
It's been a while since I've posted any images, mainly because I didn't really have any interesting ones to post. Then, on Friday night I set up to get some moon images. Sky was OK. Maybe a tinge of smoke. For a half an hour or so the seeing was spectacular. The live video was as clear and steady as I had ever seen. I've posted the 3 Saints - Catharina, Theophilus, Cyrillus - taken on Friday night. On Saturday night things were back to normal east coast of Australia seeing - with a bit of bush fire smoke to temper things. Comparing the two images from Friday and Saturday absolutely illustrates the role of chance in "lucky" imaging. The images are low quality here due to the posting 200k limit.

Go to Flickr for higher resolution images

ZWO ASI 178MM Camera. Celestron 9.25"CPC.

Approx 2000 frames washed through AutoStakkert then 10% stacked and sharpened in Registax.

We all have to take advantage of the clear skies when we can, but dodgy skies and posting limits aside, that's a nice bit of work, well done. While you can see the differences between them, it's still a decent result.

Great example of the results of excellent seeing and lucky imaging. I like the framing in all of your images in your linked album.

Thanks for posting.

Steve.

Great image! And the rest of the Flickr shots are great too.
I was observing both moon & Saturn around the same time and yes there was a period of absolutely beautiful stable seeing. Unfortunately it didn’t last so no pics for me lol

Hi Richard
Very nice image of one of my favourite lunar regions and highlighting the difference seeing can make to an image ( and eyeballs ).
