What's a good laptop these days?

I am in the market for a laptop. Aound 14 to 17 inch screen, i7 at least and 1TB solid state drive.

Any suggestions for a good brand?

Macbook Pro ... I was a windows pc user for many years, but about 12 months ago I switched to a new MacBook Pro. I would never go back to PCs and windows OS. Apple Macbooks aren't the cheapest around, but the service, back-up and quality is, in my opinion, streets ahead of windows based PC systems.

You can order various sizes, memory, etc., and it will be delivered to you accordingly. Check out the Apple on-line sites to see all the options, prices etc.

It depends on what you want to do with it. If you intend on using Pixinsight, stick to either Windows or Linux, give the M2 macbook a miss.

I usually do my Laptop purchases between Christmas and New Years, and tend to look for previous model Gaming Laptops. They always have high end specs, Great looking screens, and you can upgrade the RAM and storage. And they're usually 25%+ off.

The only potential downside is that the gaming hardware space is awash with RGB lights everywhere and some pretty "out there" case designs, but it is possible to find laptop that has a good balance between classy looking and performance powerhouse.

It's for my wife to use mainly as a business computer but also for her personal use.

Hi,

Look at the reviews of DELL XPS series XPS 13, XPS 15. Always consistently good reviews and the XPS 13 gets many awards as #1 windows laptop.

Also if you want Apple class design language and quality (and price) but would prefer to stick with a PC, look at the Microsoft surface laptops.

Both machines are user upgradeable in terms of RAM and SSD.

I have an ASUS Nitro, I9 CPU, NVIDIA 3070 graphics, Currently 4TB of disk and 32Gb of RAM, it only cost me $2100 from HN and included a $300 gift card. However at this price the build quality is OK but its all plastic and has flashing gaming lights so may not suit as a business machine. I purchased it as an astro processing machine and was prepared to sacrifice build quality over performance. An equivalently optioned Razer gaming laptop would be over $5,000. As a previous poster said gaming laptops specification wise can be good value if you look around, but may not suit as a business solution.
