Saturated Moon Mosaic from May 26

I've been working on a bit of project from last night... a saturated colour mosaic of the moon. It has been assembled from 23 avis, all captured at secondary focus of my C8 with the ToUcam and K3 and stacked in registax. The mosaic was assembled in PS CS3 then saturated (90%), cropped and saved for the web (at about 50% smaller size).

Unfortunately, this version is heavily cropped. The brighter sections didn't work as well as I would've liked and I picked one image that wasn't processed the same as the others when building the mosaic (it's hard to get good help!) so the joins looked awful when saturated.

Lots of data there. I'll have another go at full length terminator mosaic soon, and maybe some smaller area but larger scale mosaics.

Al.

Great image Al, lovely colours showing the mineral nature of the moon.

Saturated Apennines, Batman!

Since the Apennines seem to be the current flavour of the lunar month, heres a crop at 100% scale of the Apennines from the original mosaic. Curves were used to increase contrast.

Unsaturated Terminator

Here's a crop of the terminator fro the same data as above, unsaturated at 100% scale (saved at 49% quality though!).

Thanks Mike, Matt and Ken.

I think I like the BW terminator mosaic the most too, but the colours are interesting. Some of the borders of the colours on the Apennine shot look a bit unnatural. I'm not sure how much is real and how much is MAP artifacts. I guess I can always reprocess it as SAP and see... ...one day maybe, not right now....
