NGC 6611 Eagle nebula

Hello,

last night's (this morning's) efforts.

C9.25 F/10 on CG5 guided by William Optics Zenistar 80mm using Guidedog
Canon EOS 20Da, 9 frames (out of 16) of 8 minute exposures at ISO 800

Should have tried slightly longer exposures. and i fear the focus might be a tad off not sure.

Anyways, its a definite improvement for me comparing my last shot of the same target last year.

now to get some sleep...

Hi Frank,
A very good effort considering the moon is 3/4 full, but maybe a bit over the hill at that time of the morning, great detail, good colour, ive reprocessed it a bit,see what you think.

cheers.........Jim

Great image Frank, lovely detail. The Eagle is always such a great subject to image, I'm looking forward to imaging this one as well.

Cheers

Thanks

Thanks everyone!
(i've now had a whopping 45 minutes of sleep so feel all refreshed... )

Thansk Jim, Bill, Ric and John.

Jim, Thanks for tweaking it up! I struggled a bit with this one in terms of black point settting. I only imaged after the moon had set so i didnt have to worry about skyglow from the moon (i've now done that two nights in a row and I'm beat!). I looked long and hard at the pattern of faint red nebulosity to see if it was indeed sky glow or vignetting but in the end because of the pattern i thought that probably the 20Da with it's sensitivity for red spectrum had probably picked up some nebulosity so i left it in.

I like the contrast of your reprocessed one better though. i think what i should probably do next time (when I have tracking i can trust) is go for more exposures including longer ones to really build up the faint stuff and thus enable a clearer contrast or show it up for being skyglow and remove it using the good old Gaussian blur trick. Until then i think your reprocessed version is better, thanks.

cheers

frank

Nice, Frank.

Could be just my CRT monitor but I prefer the original image. Sorry Jim.

thanks

Thanks everyone,

I was looking at it on the work monitor (during my officially sanctionned break as per award-of course...)

Looked a bit too washed out, more so than i could detect on my settings at home. I think Jim's reprocessing with a better dark set point is in line with what I need to do

That and get my monitor better calibrated !

Thanks everyone,

without good honest feedback i wouldnt make progress!
cheers
