Centaurus A

This shot was taken the same session as my recent Omega Centauri effort and backed up the following evening of 24th April earlier this week.
Taken with my Canon 60D through the Newt with 90min exposure at 45sec subs ISO 800.

A few lessons learnt again- since it was my first obs toward the south for a while I forgot to balance the scope for this section of sky but meh, the data shows up some surrounding glow produced by this intense central core with some detail within which was pleasing to see.

Rich star field in and around the galaxy which was another learning curve with processing out gradients and respecting the light as is taboo.

Cheers,
Anthony

A good image Anthony, and I can't wait to see what you'd get with a dedicated astro-camera.

Cheers,
V

Nice one Anthony. Who needs a dedicated Astro camera when you can get results like this with Modded DSLR.

Great work Anthony, you've really pulled some detail out without killing the core, very well done.

Believe me I’ve given it some thought but I know if I do it would most probably mean changing my entire setup since my Newt was originally built for visual purposes only and is quite heavy.

Cheers Mick- it definitely punches above its weight and is well paired with the 10” newt - it does the job for what I need for the time being until I sway to the ways of modern astrophotography…..

Oska- thanks for your comment- it’s difficult to rid the noise inherent with a DSLR and is always a balance maintaining the detail in this process. I’ve learnt to get the best out the data it affords but would definitely make life easier if I was to bite the bullet of a proper cooled cam me thinks!
