Synscan WiFi Adapter - How does it work?

I want to run my EQ6-R mount wirelessly from a room in my house, using a destop PC. The mount is in the backward less than 10 metres away.

So, I purchased a dongle (Skywatcher WiFi Adapter) which plugs into the mount.

Using the Synscan Pro app, I can drive the mount from the screen using the arrows on the display.

This is OK, but to do so means that I have to select the network Synscan_WiFi_46da (provided by Synscan) as my wireless network, instead of my usual home network

Unfortunately, this means that while I am driving the mount, I cannot access the Internet as usual.

Any ideas where I may have gone wrong wrong?

Paul

You need to setup the mount in station mode. The manual has the information on how to do this, but you manually enter all the info from your home router, SSID, password etc.

Synscan WiFi Adapter - How does it work?

Thanks for replying.

I understand that I need to set up the mount in Station Mode and, as far as I can tell, I have followed the instructions that came with the adapter exactly.

The default seems to be Access Mode and I have a lot of difficulty getting out of this and into Station Mode. I may have managed to do it only the once.

You have been caught out by the astronomy software developers bug called we will make it as confusing as possible

Any normal person would think the info you need to access would be in the connection setting tab, however this is not the case.

It is hiding in the tab next to it in SynScan Wi-Fi

Ensure your mount and laptop are connected and talking to each other under the current access point setup.

On the main menu press the setting button then complete the following

Step 1. Press the SynScan Wi-Fi tab (Image step 1)
Step 2. You will now have a blank screen with a button saying "read settings". Press this button until the connection information comes up on the screen, you may have to press the button a few times. (Image step 2)
Step 3. Check the modify station box and populate your required information. (Image step 3)

Do not forget to press the "apply" button in the top right on completion.

Hope this helps

Carl

Paul, sorry it does not work. I do not have any other idea's.

Maybe if you let the group know how far you get and where it fails someone may have an idea to help.

Having two connections

My solution to the problem was to add an USB WiFi plug in and connect the mount to one of the connections and my home WiFi to the other.
It works for me and is a cheap solution.
