Have you considered upgrade to OnStep?
It may prove to be cheaper and faster option.. + you get GoTo.

I was thinking of getting EQStarEQ5 kit from Astro gadget. However it is about AUD$500 and will take a while to ship from Ukraine.

Reading your post, I have searched and found an on step eq5 guide. I have never done anything like this nor have any tools, but I will look into it and give it a shot sometime.

If you have a friend with some electronics background (/u processors).... it will be a piece of cake.
