First Mars for 2007
Hi all
This image was taken on Saturday morning, 5:30am local time in reasonable seeing. Mars was at 38° altitude, and a tiny 5.4" in diameter.
The SPC, Mare Sirenum and Mare Cimmerium are visible in this image.
It's my first Mars for 2007, in what's likely to be a disappointing year in Australia at opposition, when Mars transits at only 29° and grows to only 16" in diameter. Still, good to get the first runs on the board.
Thanks for looking.

Crikey Mike, where did you pull that one from. Very crisp for the size and distance.

Good work Mike, that's a great result considering the tiny size of this planet.

Lovely image Mike and very detailed as well.
I enjoyed the way your image is composed with the simulator beside it.
Cheers

I'm impressed!
(I've never managed to get anything other than a red blob on my Mars images!)

Thanks guys, I'm really pleased with how it turned out. David Ardatti (an imager from the UK) pointed out that the white/blue area in the bottom left is Olympus Mons, or more accurately, clouds over the top of Olympus Mons!

Wow, that is amazing.
It`s so small at the moment, when I look at it it`s just a blank disc.
I can`t wait till December. I would like to see the larger version higher in the sky.
Cheers.

that is awesome Mike, I want to go & have a look for Mars now
.....
Well that is settled, telescopes ARE cloud magnets, I had no sooner dragged the dob out, than a blanket of cloud descended from the east enveloping Mars

An excellent image Mike – Mars must seem easy for you now, compared to revealing detail on Ganymede?
Cheers
