The Moon... but where?

Guys,

if you take a picture of the moon (as attached) is there a way to identify where on the moon, the names of the craters, and other features? Possibly add a scale?

Quick guesswork.
I think it is near the crater Archimedes.
Found by cropping to the distinctive crater pattern on the right of the picture in Google lens.
I will confirm / deny that later by looking at my set of moon maps, which should give more information.

Great idea - I kept looking through a few photos returned by Google Lens until I came up with a close match - Cassini. I then opened Google Earth Pro with the Moon option - search... and found it.

Archimedes is just out of this shot to the top right (top because its not north south).

Will see if I can annotate and add a scale to my image.

I didn't know that Google Earth also covered the moon. That will be interesting to explore.

I found the area on my Astrovisuals Moon Maps without too much trouble.

These show the terminator every night, so now I know that if I stay up through the seventh night of the waxing moon that I will see this area come into view.

All we need now is such a night without clouds ...

If it's a partly cloudy night planetary or Lunar can be great... you only need a few minutes max of videos.

Google Earth has Mars, moon and sky... click the button shaped like Saturn.

Virtual moon atlas can show you a map of the moon with the phase as it was at the time of observation. It's a great program
