The Meade mySky

Havent seen this mentioned in this forum -if it has i've missed it but

http://www.astronomics.com/main/prod...e/54QD07S9UCS8

looks like..feels like..smells like classic vapourware but if and when it materialises...

always wondered if the Celestron Skyscout could be used as poor man's "push to", but I think it has been pretty well established that that doesnt work..maybe the mySky will?

anyone actually seen first hand how well the Skyscout works BTW?all the reports I have seen are from the Northern hemisphere

There are marketing blurbs about it on Astro Optical's site as well as Bintel's...I suspect anyone who handles Meade products will have some kind of link...

This should be fun to watch a hoped for "battle royale" between mySky and SkyScout...so I must ask "Are You ready to Ruuummmble?"

Can't wait to see who's machine reigns supreme!...

Man I watch too much TV (wrestling, Iron Chef)...

Thanks guys.

Not sure I'm really into the "speed gun" design. Am sure others will like it.

Each to their own, though.

I guess its functionality is more important than its design.

Wow - in today's climate of terrorism induced fear, I wonder who will be brave enough to buy one of these pistol-like devices and point it at the sky......

Could find yourself having to explain to the SWAT team that it is a star gun and not a firearm?

Cheers

I thought of that too...especially when linked with a green laser pointer...Maybe I should order the optional kevlar flak jacket too ...just to be safe.

Owners of the mySky can line up rival SkyScout users and shoot them!

I think it looks like it should come with a heavy duty 14.4V battery pack.

Interesting that it seems to be able to control and drive some of Meade 'scopes too...a really neat way to GoTo. Very cool!

Cheers

Not very useful in heavily light poluted skies I would think ..... but if it works off GPS maybe you can just point at the clouds even !!!

Kids would love it .... rather like a nintendo game.

I just found out about this device last night (May 10) at an ASV meeting. I was talking to someone, who just made an off the cuff remark about it. It looks interesting to say the least.

It could come in handy if you have people speeding down your street...it looks so much like a speed gun, just wear a blue shirt...parking on the nature strip would also help!

I haven't actually enquired yet, but Bintel appear to be taking advanced bookings. Hmmmm....I like my "toys"....

It would have been a good idea to include an option to add a laser pointer to this. That way you could use it as a finder goto scope.

I noticed in the latest Sky & Tel that someone over in the states makes a laser bracket that attaches to a SkyScout, I am sure they will make one for the mySky.
