Lyme Disease

Well, today I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. I had gotten a tick in my head Friday and didn't notice it till Monday. It had buried in my head and found it when it was already pretty burrowed in.

I had some blood work done and they confirmed I had Lyme disease. Got some antibiotics also. My uncle had it and it took him almost a year to get rid of it with antibiotics. They said It shouldn't take very long for me to get rid of it since I'm very healthy and only 18, but for now I will be very fatigued, and my bones and joints will hurt until the disease is gone.

It sucks, but I wont let this get me down and stop doing the things I love doing.

Thats bad luck Ingo. Good to hear you got onto it so quickly. When I was in Chicago at the Synchrotron for the first time I was warned not to take shortcuts through the remaining natural woodland because of the chance of picking up a tick with Lyme disease. There were deer running wild in the grounds as well as Racoons etc. I thought it was an over reaction when I had taken a short cut but I was assured it was a good precaution.

What if any are the potential long term effects?

Bert

that sucks Ingo, all the best mate, we'll be here for ya.
we have a kinda similiar problem here, with ross river virus and its relations, from mosquitos tho - similar results, many people end up with chronic fatigue like you, and even worse developments sometimes.
I know of some people with CF for life from it.

It's good that you got a timely diagnosis. A U.S. friend had Lyme disease for several years before getting it diagnosed. It was very debilitating for him, but he's doing better now that he's on antibiotics. Many of us wander the world in ignorance of all these little nasties until they get you.

Bad luck Ingo.
Like you said though, you have youth and an early diagnosis on your side.
I wish you a speedy recovery and hope it won't slow you down too much.
