Jupiter / Saturn 3 Sep

hi all,

haven't imaged for a while and i'm definitely rusty. it was clearish last night and the jetstream was fairly good and I wanted to get a 2022 saturn before it slips away. anyway, did a quick setup and hand guided through the controller for these. for some reason i wasn't really getting over 30fps so i might have put in a dud cable. i thought these would come out sharper, the planets were looking quite crisp through the eyepiece, i guess the low fps wouldn't have helped - and possibly lack of sleep too.
anyway interesting to see how much jupiter has changed.. - i've put one up from last season for comparison

cheers

russ

I know how you feel- I’m yet to have a night with truely good seeing for planetary imaging this year. Nice effort anyways! STill a good memento for the night.

What are you using for capture? If it’s Firecapture, something weird has happened for me that’s resulted in terrible frame rates on my Mac and has forced me to change to ASICAP to get full speed again. In the couple times I’ve used ASICAP im really impressed with its ease of use, performance and features.

Nice images Russ, particularly Jupiter transit.

Another vote here for ASICAP. We use it under Linux as we can't get the same frame rates with Firecapture.

Hi David, yes real difficult to get a good image. while fairly good for my location i never really got those fleeting moments of real sharpness. I'm using Sharpcap 4 on windows. I gave up on firecapture a long time ago. I might have to do some daytime testing if time allows! i was kinda just a bit shocked at how slow it was.

Hi guys, ok asicap sounds like it is worth investigating. Ok sounds interesting, my current astro workflow is one of the things holding me back from going full time linux. I'd just have to consider my deep sky capture before totally ditching windows on the capture laptop. and for solar i do use my qhy163m - not sure asicap works with qhy too? will look into it.

Hi Russ, unfortunately ASICAP is written by ZWO and therefore only supports their cameras. A no go for the qhy.
