So I want to view the sun safely...

All,

Just looking for some advice and experiences with solar viewing.

I am interested in using my ED 80 with a filter of some description...

Frankly, I am a bit nervous about how to get started...

Advice on which solar filter to buy (pros and cons) and any other helpful hints would be appreciated...

I understand that it is "relatively" easy to make a solar filter but for now, I am happy to buy one (most likely glass) already made...At least that way my fully sighted surviving spouse will have someone to sue (at heart I still think like an "American" )

I think I would prefer a "natural orange/yellow" tint to the view but can be convinced if other shades or tints are better.

At this stage a fully dedicated solar scope is not in the cards.

Thanks!

G'Day,
There must be some sort of "Bug" going around as I'm thinking of buying a Solar filter for my 10" but there a bit pricey,so I think I'll be buying a ED 80 and use that ,not only for the Sun but for my camera as well, anyway have a look here http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=19747 and there is another thread about the same subject.
Cheers
Arthur
P.S. Just found the other thread http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...t=solar+filter also Mike posted a "How to" when he made his own filter.

Scott, on my ED80 I use an Identiview 'Class B' Glass filter for an ETX 125. It gives a white image which I turn yellow/Orange in PhotoShop or Paintshop Pro.

One of my solar images after making it yellow/Orange in Photoshop:

I use the same brand as Ken and really like the views Scott.
Bought mine from Bintel and fits beautifully on my ED80.
