This was heavily modified for use as a planetary scope, but I am getting too old to be standing around in the cold/dark at 4 am, so it should go to someone who can use it.
The tube has been coated with reflective tape to minimise thermal currents and it has been reinforced around the focuser to keep collimated at varying scope angles - not very pretty, but solved the collimation drift issues.
Comes with the original Dob base (roller bearing type), elevation bearings, and a set of tube rings, so it could be used as either planetary or Dob (or both) from now on. The focuser is a pulsed DC Moonlite which makes fine focusing very easy for planetary and it would be great for Dob use as well (the controller battery cover went missing at a remote site, but it all works very well).
The optics star test very well and the primary mirror housing has been modified to minimise astigmatism, with brass edge supports placed to stop mirror sag with varying angles (this mod worked very well). The coatings have been kept clean and look nearly as good as new. Supplied with 32mm wide field eyepiece.
Asking $950 – collection from Adelaide. A modified dob is easily the most economical way in to get into high resolution solar system imaging. Here is one such scope with all the modifications already taken care of and that can immediately start taking high res images with a Barlow and camera.. Thanks for looking - Ray
