Over Hills of Hydrogen - IC 2944

A deep look into the centre of the Running Chicken Nebula. I’ve been experimenting with framing with my recent photos, and I think cropping in close adds another dimension to astrophotography. This is framed in such a way to show the beautiful hydrogen ‘hills’ hanging below the famous Bok Globules.

Very happy with this photo, considering it was done with a small 72mm refractor and over three nights of nearly a full moon. Processing really does make a huge difference, and pushing photos too hard or not enough means you don’t get all that you can out of the data. I also love the natural-looking HOO palette, which I’ve used here.
