Omega

The link here is to a recent Omega Centauri rendition. (after months of rain, I needed a well placed, bright test object to dial everything back in)

I am still experimenting with CMOS modes, with this sequence being captured in high well depth mode and a gain of 1.
The results in this mode seem "more CCD like" so I suspect I will persist with this until I discover something better.

At a FL of 2800mm the 3.7 micron pixels show every tracking and orthogonality error. Bottom right of frame shows a smidge of focal-plane tilt.

High cirrus plus a rising moon put pay to and notions of colour....and of course rain is forecast.

But I think this combo has promise....

Wow Peter, "just dialing in you reckon" love to see it when you have it dialed in

That is brilliant mate, so sharp and clear, can just about count every Star, well done indeed.

Ta Leon. It was interesting to watch the guiding plot. It settled down to 0.4 of a pixel (or about 1.5 arc sec) but was difficult to see any difference in the Dec and RA correction plots, which means the the tracking was satisfyingly "seeing limited".

The seeing was good but not excellent. Once this next run of foul weather passes through...hopefully...I'll get the colour data.

P.S.
I shouldn't do back the envelope guestimates.

With the F6 reducer the 16" Alluna is running at 2400mm, hence the image
scale per pixel is 0.3 arc sec per pixel (205* 3.76/2400)...way over-sampled.

Due the various cameras I use, I get MaxIm to simply plot guiding as a
fraction of a pixel. In this case the RMS value was 0.42 pixels.

So the RMS guiding was better than I estimated. 0.3 x 0.42 = 0.126 arc sec.

Wow Peter, that is looking fantastic. The IMX455 is so unforgiving but your RC is looking great! Seems like everyone has been plagued with poor conditions this summer -we haven't had much rain over here but a marine heatwave which has contributed to a lot of nighttime cloud once the temp drops...

As always, a breathtaking image of Omega with tremendous fine detail and resolution ( if you didn’t mention it , I wouldn’t have noticed the tilt in the bottom RH corner )
In saying that though, I do prefer Omega imaged and displayed with smaller rigs to give it some contrast against a wider interstellar background ( only my preference)
Still a cracker of an image under a narrow window of opportunity
Well done !!

Ta, and indeed I agree, framing a subject is important.

This view is nicely resolved but a little tight.

With some luck I'll be able to revisit it soon with a new optic
