250 Deep Sky Objects

Are you looking for something to observe or something to image?
Here are images of 250 Deep Sky Objects

https://250clustersnebulaegalaxies.s...com/pictures/8
The file name is the NGC or IC number

There are
40 Open Clusters with a 1.3 degree field
40 Globular Clusters with a 1.3 deg field
50 Nebulae with a 2.6 deg field
40 Planetary Nebulae with a 19 arc min field
80 Galaxies with a 1.3 deg field
The SMC & LMC have larger fields

These images were made using "Aladin sky atlas" developed at CDS, Strasbourg Observatory, France

The file name for each image is the NGC or IC number
Use slideshow to see larger images
The 250 DSO are from the whole sky.
They were selected using both magnitude and size.

Hi Glen,

Thanks for the link. It makes for a great quick reference based on size of objects. The sort of thing that appeals to me for sketch purposes. A five minute look at the catalogue and I've added some four new items to my list to visit over time. On a selfish note, shame that the list is whole sky as so many items in the list are not visible from Oz. Bugger...

Cheers mate,

Alex.

250 DSO data

Here is the data for the 250 DSO images in post #1.
Objects north of dec+50 and south of dec-50 are highlighted in the last column

The data comes from Dr Steinicke.

226 DSO south of dec +50

This is the same list arranged by RA and by object type.
Objects north of dec +50 are not included.
I am currently observing the 35 PN.
There are 226 DSO in this list.
Here are the images. https://250clustersnebulaegalaxies.s...com/pictures/8

Good job Glen.

Are you ok with me sharing this file to our small observing group in the NSW Southern Highlands via Facebook?

226 DSO south of dec +50

In the last few weeks I have seen 188 of the 226 DSO south of dec +50:

All of the 40 GC on this list.
23 OC, 14 to go
28 nebulae, 16 to go
32 PN, 3 to go (NGCs 1514, 2371 7026)
65 galaxies, 5 to go (NGCs 185, 891, 1023, 2683, 3184)

I use a 12" Saxon Collapsible Dob and find objects by star hopping.
http://www.saxon.com.au/telescopes/d...telescope.html

I can see much better now after cataract operations on both eyes.

That's really good fun and I don't think we do enough of it. Used to be the only way to find things and I think it made us more aware of what we were doing.
