Hi Morton,
Thanks for the post.
The encoder interface on Argo Navis is mechanically and electrically
compatible with the older Sky Tour system, so an Argo Navis can plug
into your existing encoder cable and operate.
The inverse is true, which is the question you are asking, but with a caveat.
When ordering an encoder installation kit from us for the Sky Tour, you
should request a lower encoder resolution option, such as 4096 steps
per axis.
Normally our kits ship with encoders that provide 10,000 steps effective
resolution per axis. However, due to their very slow 8-bit CPU's and
associated slow encoder sampling rates, older DSC systems, such as the
Sky Tour and the like, cannot handle the higher resolution encoders without
mis-sampling them even at modest slew speeds.
However, they will handle the lower resolution encoders, such as the
4096 steps, just fine.
We have the largest portfolio of encoder installation kits in the world
and you can see the various mounts we support at our web site
