Most users ever online was 490, 01-07-2007 at 06:42 AM

I'm thinking the Venus/Saturn conjunction tweaked a lot of interest.

When the missus saw the two planets in the field of view she said something like "isn't that the moon?" referring to the cresent of Venus.

Likely that was a lot of bots. Every now and then a new search engine comes online, or an old one decides it's time to re-index and floods the site (and others) with hundreds of automated processes that trawl the site looking for keywords to put in its search engine.

The most ever real users online at any one time was approx 350 or so during Comet McNaught week (mid Jan 2007).

Wow, 490 is a decent effort but what was everyone doing up at that time of the morning apart from being on IIS that is.

Cheers

On another forum I could see a detailed listing of those "online" and every so often it would be over-run with "google spider"s eeek!
