Wanted: 4" or bigger APO (maybe)

Hi, this is speculative at this point, as I haven't decided quite how much money I can afford or even what kind of scope I want (i.e. still debating refractor vs. Newt or SCT).

Was wondering if there's anyone out there who is interested in parting with their APO. I've owned a Tele Vue TV-85 before, and it's by far the best quality scope I've ever owned, but TV prices are way too high to buy new.

I really want a 5", but for the right price I might go for a high-quality 4".

I'm aware that the Skywatcher Pro 120 ED is on special just now, and I know that the new Meade 127mm is due out in April/May, but I want to find out what else is out there.

If I get no replies I won't be surprised, as I reckon most people keep a good refractor when they find one!

Cheers

Morton

Giday, I think you just have to be quick, they are swooped upon as the post is being typed. Have you looked at BORG you can start small and increase your aperture when you can afford to. The only problem is they are all useful, get one you will keep.

Morton, ED's are practically Apo's. The quality of the ED lens amazing!!!! Be worth testing out an ED as Meade go right up to a 7" ED/Apo. (178mm)

Hi guys, I am considering the ED models, and I may well have to wait until the SPSP and hope someone has one that I can look through. I had the first Borg 100ED (sold my TV-85 to get it cos I wanted more aperture) but the Borg just wasn't as good as the TeleVue. That's why I'm a bit reluctant to go with Orion/Skywatcher, at least not until I've tried one out.

As for Meade, they seemed to have terrible QA problems with their old APOs, and now there's the new 127mm, made in China and due out in May. Price seems a bit too good to be true, but again I'll maybe just have to wait and see.

The biggest problem, as always, is I want one NOW! However, all the research and window shopping on the 'net sure is fun.

Too good to be true? Hmmm...

Hi everyone, since I bought a Dob last week I guess I'm fixed up for deep sky, but I still fancy a nice refractor for portability. Am considering the Skywatcher 100ED as it's down to $1,195 at myastroshop. The William Optics ZS110 is nice but it's a bit out of my price range at the moment.

Anyone have something along these lines that they don't need any more?

Cheers

Morton
