Simple way to calc NELM?

Hello Everydobby,

I'm not really interested down to the second decimal point, but does anyone have a simple system for roughly estimating what the NELM is on any given night? An asterism with a fairly close set of stars ranging from, say, mag 3 to 7, something like that.
