The CWAS/David Malin awards are now done and dusted for 2020.

Despite the fires, floods and pestilence, there were some excellent images being made by new faces & new winners.

Well done to one and all!

This image received the solar system prize.
..I'm still shocked, as 2019/20 was not the best of imaging years from my Obs in Emerald City.

I hope you enjoy the view and the write-up.

P.S.
I was having a "Dry July", but we popped a bottle of bubbles just for today

Why did NASA bother sending the LRO to the moon
These are superb lunar terrain images, impeccable resolution, colour and detail
Congratulations
Well done !!

Congrats : Who said that Deep Sky instruments are no good at Solar System objects!

You Def. should point that thing at Mars and Jove.

Thanks guys. I must admit much of what I submitted in this year's Malin's
were incomplete projects. (due fire, flood, pestilence etc.)

I had pinned some hope with this image taken with my AP130GTX

Which did get a highly commended...but I personally preferred it over the winning entry.

DM being his inscrutable self as usual!

As to a RC16 not being a planetary 'scope.
In theory... sort of...and some may bang on about MTF's etc. But my experience is: aperture still rules.

I recently acquired the new QHY462 OSC camera...amazing IR response.
It will be interesting to see how it goes on the planets...

Nice moon photo Peter, congrats on winning entry. Both your images are interesting for different reasons (I like the Paint Ball image for its mineralogy and the other for its range of features). Those bright peaks in the Appennines rise to about 5 km above the mare surface.

Thanks. John W.
