Jupiter, March 14, getting better
Here's another image from this morning, processed more carefully at 150% size. sadly this takes a long time to do.
I've just finished the red light layer, Io looks nice :-)
cheers, Bird

That's excellent, Anthony!
Io is an actual three-dimensional sphere
Great stuff

Absolutely stunning!
Do you do your resizing in ppmcentre before registax?

How long were your captures for, Anthony?
How did you manage to keep Io round? Is it a composite?

Mike, I use the resample option in ninox (used to be ppmcentre) before I run registax. Registax does not support resampling of fits files :-(
Each channel is 50 seconds, and I had to compromise the stack slightly by offsetting the red channel 1 pixel to get Io close. It's still not quite right, the offset should be 2 pixels, but it looks ok. It's not a composite.

Everyone else used up all the good superlatives, so how about this old fashioned term for your image, it left me "Gob Smacked"

Thanks guys. I'm going away over the weekend (it's a long w/e in canberra) so I'll take my laptop and keep working on these. Might have something to post when I get back.

Here's my shot of pretty much exactly the same time as Bird's.
Interesting to note they look almost identical, except for the image scale of course due to Anthony's resampling

Given that you guys are shooting through similar atmosphere ( not Mauna Kea !) , similar aperture , similar cameras and similar image processing, the similarity would be expected. To give credit to the work he puts into mirror cooling and image processing, I'd say Anthonys picture ( left ) contains more real information . You guys are clearly working close to the edge of the 'envelope' though.

Nope, couldn't make Snake Valley this time - we had this w/e booked in for an annual get-together with some friends.
I'll try and get to the next one though...
cheers, Bird
