Dont get tricky with me Beren, . I just smashed the 350 on the back of 14" and opened the shutter for 30 seconds. bought up the RAW in Maxim, mashed the keyboard with the palm of my hand, and viola... Pretty much sums it up...
nice colours, bit of work to do and a tad star drift, but hey way better than my first attempt, I forgot to lock the focus once I achieved it and everything moved, I had a nice blurred lump of light.
Thats encouraging stuff Guys, cheers. Oh yeah thanks Houghy, something else I didnt do, lock the mirror, had not quite finished drift aligning when I saw an opportunity.
Ill figure this out, not quite ready to give up yet, It is second light, 1st is a really embarrasing Saturn that looks a lot like the stars on the M42...
It can't be too bad, I can recognise it as Orion nebula. With most peoples early efforts (mine ) it is hard to tell what the pic is of. Yours is sooo close to being good! Get the drift right and it will be great
The shape is there, the colours are there, and the core isn't burnt out like in my latest effort. Your on your way.
to do the dynamic range I am sort of leaning towards the idea you may need to barcket your exposure times a bit, some short some longer and stack them, best way to reduce noise is to stack, stack, stack. You may also need to get a focal reducer, but as you say, One step at a time.
Great first image too, you should be proud of it. I am actually yet to venture into astrophotography with a DSLR, look forward to seeing more from you.

From one of my first rolls of film back in the early 80`s of the lagoon. Gave up on astroimaging for many years after that roll!!!

Feeling Better now, thanks for the encouragement. and guidance. As some of you know Ive waited a long time for this, Ive owned the scope for nearly a whole year....

On yer SirDystic!! Welcome to the astrophotographers club (just joined myself)!! You must know what you're doing to get an image like that - not shabby at all! Keep em coming.
Good on ya Sir Dystic, Although can't understand how come you got a clear bloody sky up there when good old Yungaburra is still shrouded in cloud.
When i get my scope i'll be up to see you. Hope you get some more clear ones but not likely with these S/Easterely's. Oh well it might fine up in a couple of months. Good luck mate.
