Anyone here into old tractors?
My father in law dropped off our new-to-us MF35 this week.
Gonna take some loving, but it’s a good one for the price.
Sure is showing every bit of its 60years, but the plan is to have it ready for the Grey Fergie muster in March next year.
My first paid job was driving a Ferguson 35 on a neighbour's farm in Finland,
I was 10yrs old and it was summer of 1967....... I got in strife a couple of times as the model had a diff lock and did not want to turn when the trailer was loaded and front wheels would come off the ground.... scared myself a couple times.
It's still a working tractor (not a show pony ;o) ) so since I've had it I've panelbeated the left guard, refitted the toolbox to the left guard, fixed the hand brake and the diff lock and added an ROPS - oh, and replace a tyre that was badly gashed.
Not much to restore, always a working tractor. Just Chromed a few item and fresh paint.
Now this is one I did restore, Transmission etc. A small tractor, but a real - "workhorse" Back in it's day..
Sweet old machines , I'm looking for an old fergy or similar .
Newer machines of today ,, well were i work we had a late model new holland that developed electronic issues somewhere in the shuttle transmission loop (9k later ) and a couple of months down time it worked fine for 5 months and is now doing the same again ..

Not from diff lock or weight, but I recall the first time I drove a tractor was a grey fergie. First gear, fine, second gear, fine. Top, whoops, front wheels bouncing up and down over the bumps in the laneway as it went three times as fast as in second gear, my dad forgot to mention not to use the road gear..
Bought a beaten up old Fergi 185, from a logging company. A new clutch and a little welding now it is used at least every week, nice to have a loader and hay forks.
Still for some jobe I wish I could use a draft horse. The percheron stallion we had fo 20 odd years was a delight for small jobs,garden & fire break plowing.

Fixed up the old slasher today, chucked some new skids on and sharpened the blades. Just need to get a pto shaft now, the old boy left it at port Macquarie, and I’m good to cut the jungle down the back.
I’ve got a grey TEA 20 thats been helping me get my boat in and out of the water for nearly 20 years. Super reliable. It gets washed more than my car, after every trip, and garaged next to the boat. Best part about these beautys is you can still buy new bits and parts. I have to keep on top of maintenance. Pictures here after replacing some bits. Engine cover paint hadnt dried yet.

I never knew what a Fergie was until I read this thread. After visiting my Folks the other day, their nieghbour shows up on an old blue Fergie. He bought it off the other neighbour few a hundred bucks. Hadn't run in many years
He cleaned a mud wasp nest out of the starter motor. Off it went. After about 10 hours of use (to weed out any other troubles), he invested in an oil change, and fresh diesel. All it needed. It looks like something out of Mad Max, but it goes hard.
