More ASA Astrograph images

Hi Gang

Nothing as mind blowing as the Orion Sword image this time but I
have been working with some more of Chris Willingtons ASA N12 data
but this time with the raw fits he sent me on disc. It has been a
real anxiety tamer for me, I can tell you, while I wait for my FLI
ProLine camera. It has also been very useful in determining that my
PIII 800 mHz 256meg Ram desk top computer is next to useless when
working on these raw 11mega pixel Fits files! :-o My Pentium M 1.7
with 1 gig of ram lap top is much better though.

While pure focal length will win in the end for detail and resolution, I
think the advantage of having a wide but still high
resolution field from excellent well corrected optics
to start with is quite evident in this selection, one image can then
become three or more quite easily :-)

I don't have a sigma combine routine available in the version of
Astroart I use for my main image combination and given the very
small amount of data in these images, I had to leave the satelite
trails in (normally I would just discard images with them). I don't
mind them too much really which is not surprising I guess, coming from
a diffraction spike lover? :-)

I have gone for a natural soft look rather than the high contrast
Chris favours but both types of results are pleasing to me.

If you have broadband, or don't mind a short wait on dial-up, make
sure you click on the "original" size under each image to view the
full frame or largest views.

Enjoy :-)

Mike
PS Thanks Chris for this opportunity

Hi Mike, great images.
I really like the Leo galaxies, specially the one that looks like a dog bone.

Cheers

Lovely images. With such wide fields and fast optics it would be invaluable for supernova searches and the like, and would be fantastic for comets.

It would also be great for narrowband mapped colour work, that would normally take days to image just one object on slower systems.

As for resolution, thered be nothing to stop you using a tele extender or fully corrected 2 inch barlow if a bigger image scale is wanted?

Keep the images coming

Thanks everyone for having a look, these images are a blast to be involved in producing and I am going waiting for my new camera

Scott

ASA will have a new 1.8X extender coming from LOMO in Russia very soon and I am earmarked to recieve the first one for testing . Of course I can't see me running out of regions that are suited to wide but still high res imaging at the native F3.8?

While I am still ahead at F3.8, if I can take her under real dark skies I will truely be able to avoid the super long exposures generally required to get anything decent under light polluted skies.
