My visit to Bintel, Sydney.

What an experience in Sydney,
I visited Bintel last weekend, and had a great time.
Being from QLD, I didn't know where the shop is, so I phoned and got directions.
I caught the train in from Windsor, then the light rail to Glebe and a short walk and there it was.
Who was there but the nice man from IISAC, I forget his name, but I think it is Mike, a great name.
I got some great gear and more importantly some great advice on imaging and the equipment I need to start astrophotography.
I bought a wonderful book on webcam imaging, a televue barlow, a 2 inch mirror star diagonal, and a new finderscope to replace the burnt out one that I ruined at IISAC viewing the Sun.
I spent way too much, but like a kid in a sweet shop what else can you expect.
My thanks to Bintel for their advice and their eftpos.
I will be back.

Mike.

Good on you Mike.

Don't throw that old finderscope away! It's a great piece of training apparatus now! I know I certainly learned a lesson from it!

No - don't throw it away! Empty it out, card at the front with a small hole and white paper at the back with a dot and you got a solar finder...

LOL hope you had a great time. I never visit these shops as I would never leave and still own the house....

How does it work?

When you come down from Queensland to buy astro gear in Sydney, do you get the rotten weather in Sydney or when you get back home?

Well done Mike (Sausageman), glad you had a great time visiting Bintel.
Mike at Bintel is a legend (both of them, and Don too).

Sounds like you got some great gear Mike. I've been wanting to visit the shop and meet Don, Mike and the all the others that I talk with over the phone, but I would have the same problem as Houghy but probably a Ute load of great stuff.

Cheers

I think it has rained in Sydney almost every day for the past 2 weeks, except for last Saturday.
I will most certainly return to Bintel at every opportunity, they have some fabulous equipment.
It's time to start saving the dollars for some filters now, an IR blocker seems to be the go and a hydrogen alpha one as well for later.

Has Bintel, Sydney moved? When we came to Oz in 2005 they were in the downtown area across from a park.

FYI...If you don't know where Glebe is it is near to the Sydney Fish Market...So you can stop in and buy some gear and then enjoy some fresh seafood!

I guess they could change their advertising...Come by for a scope, stay for the Shrimp (prawns)!

I haven't been there myself yet (despite only living 30k from it), but will have to make a point of going because you and the others on this thread have painted such an interesting picture of it. My early thoughts are to take a lunch with me because a visit will not be a few minutes, I remember the excitement of visiting Disneyland for the first time, I guess this is along the same lines, excitement wise
