Can they really do this .......??

I know Owls can look almost behind them and have a very ' durable ' neck ....but never seen one turn it's head upside down.

Is it a ' trick ' photo .. or .... nature has it's way of doing this.

Yep. Only one socket pivot point in the neck (we have two) and more vertebrae means they can pivot 270 degrees, and upside down. It would certainly solve the problem of getting into the right observing position on those pesky GEM's...

On the other hand, I can only pivot my neck 45 degrees from straight ahead, and tip it sideways about 10 degrees. I am jealous!
