What drought?

I just got home from a trip to Melbourne before another big storm hit. This one dumped 21mm in about 20 minutes - 6 inches of water flowing through the driveway, front yard flooded again. No more piping washing machine water out to the lawn. I'll have to start wishing the rain over to SA if this keeps up.

Today's Sydney Morning Herald said (at the end of saying that the Sydney CBD had its 5th driest summer on record) that my home suburb had the most rain of any Sydney metropolitan suburb over summer.

Yes, the grass is green.

Interesting that the El Nino is essentially over. Here's hoping for La Nino weather (only during the daytime and/or Full Moon of course...).

Mike might care to comment, but I've been walking through a lot of fog in recent early mornings.

Yeh there has been a lot of fog driving down the freeway. A real PITA for transparency when trying to image.

Some local farm dams have gone from empty to full and we have three local reservoirs that must have gotten a bit of an oomph out of these falls. In any case, I don't need to worry about dams until water stops coming out of the tap......or do I?

El nino is the abnormal global weather pattern, La Nina is the regular pattern. It is always one or the other, like throwing a light switch. If El nino is over, it is La Nina.

Clear skies,
Shane

Hi Shane,

Actually, La Nina is more of an extreme like El Nino. See here.

Hi there Greg,
The "normal" weather pattern is a weak level La Nina pattern. This is described as when the Humbolt current is flowing normally up the coast of South America (hence the name-fishermen noticed the cycle).
