A great and very simple excercise for everyone (including kids) is a project on page 6 of the March/April edition of Nightsky magazine.
It is called the Globe at Night project and can be found at:
http://www.globe.gov/GaN/
It is achieved simply by counting the number of naked eye stars in Orion and comparing them to supplied charts.
It would be interesting for iceinspace members to post their home ratings and we could compare each others dark skies, and those from around the world on their web site.
How about it?
