What am I missing here

As I understand it - Not even light can escape a Black Hole. Yet it seems they are measuring, seeing - Gama Rays escaping Black Holes ???

An Accretion disc forms around the black hole (similar to the rings around Saturn), this is where hot dust and gas spin around the black hole gradually falling into the black hole.
The inner edge of the accretion disc touching the event horizon is most likely where the Gamma and X-Rays are being emitted.
