light up my life

If you have ever wondered how much does it cost to ruin my night skies then please have a gander at this. Remember that this is only for NSW, but you will get the drift. Now apply that to every pole you see………we are talking $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

That certainly is an eye opener David, it's terrible to know how much money is spent to bugger up ones hobby.

Peter, just count how many poles there are on the bicycle track that follows the new internal route, one every 10 metres approx? How longs the internal route?

What a waste of money and energy consumption.

Seems like they may need to start thinking about less powerful ones and turning some off so they use less power and last longer. If they are serious about global warming that is.

Ever seen that guy in Japan who creates crazy and totally useless inventions ..well he has a solar powered light that needs direct Sunlight to work .
I use those little garden solar lights when I am observing some are great go all night others only till 10pm. Looking for some red ones actually or a way to redden the current ones.

There's hope for us yet:

"A laser developed for military use is a few steps away from hitting a power threshold thought necessary to turn it into a battlefield weapon ... It could take only a further six to eight months to break the "magic" 100kW mark ... Potentially, lasers could destroy rockets, roadside bombs and annoying streetlights."

A slightly edited extract ... the original is here:

Hey the 25kwt unit will do me. All I hope is our member who like making his own lightening does not see it.. or did he have one on his site .
These are the type of weapons I would like to see on our first battle stars . I will start work on developing the solar powered one . Gee a few of these in space on stations with heaps of solar panels, then beam the power down to heat peoples barbeques . I wonder if they can beam power that way does the energy drop over distance like a rifle bullet. mm very interesting.
Sorry back to lights time I switch mine off and have a look outside .

Okay, I don't much, but I know what I know and I know this! We have a sensor light that only comes on when it's required, why have we not developed this technology on a grand scale and only turn the lights on briefly when required saving money and making life grand for backyard suburban astronomy

I sell that stuff (street light / lamps etc) at work and there are a myriad of legislation relating to lighting eg how much min/max lux and where, also energy usage is becoming very important when doing a lighting design, so the industry and the end user (all of us) arent completely rampant. But i when my neigbour switches on there front light all night for NO REASON AT ALL I wish for a 200mw Wicked Laser

Alex,

get some red lens dye from a car accessories place. Only a few dollars for a little 10 or 25ml bottle with a little applicator brush. I got some from auto one or some place like that. Just paint it over the light.

Just don't put them out the front when you're finished!

Al.
