Connecting Autostar to Laptop

I decided after Sat night that it would be a good move to get the laptop connected to the LXD55 mount via the autostar. Anyone done this? I have a RS232 connection from my Losmandy to the Serial (pcmcia) on my Tosh. laptop and it works fine. Was just wondering if the same cable would run between the Autostar and the serial pcmcia connector. Incidentally that cable has the 9 pin serial female connection on one end and a telephone type 4 pin on the other end. Hope I am making sense here, dont want to blow anything up.

Cheers.

Peter

it sould be no problem Peter. sounds like the same setup I'm using. 9 pin serial to RS232. The only difficulty you may have is in your com 1 port connection. i found i had to use a different com port.

I suggest you buzz your cable first, No such thing as a standard serial cord, 9 pin or not. Pins 2,3 and 5 are the only ones used on the Autostar cable DB9, (i.e.tx,rx data & gnd) they are as per the diagram below. On my LX the RJ plugs into the autostar controller and the baud rate settings are 9600, 8, n, 1

found the correct pinouts from LXD55.com. The url was to another site, but end result worked. http://members.aol.com/kewtasheck/pinouts.html
Not even close to the pinouts for the Losmandy mount. Rewired a new cable and it works like a charm.
