Scope mount extension

Gday not sure if this would provide any interest but I found trying to find info or pics hard to find over the net about mount extensions. Using my refractors/mak newt on a CG5 mount is a pain at angles facing around zenith with the tripod legs of the mount getting in the way. As a coincidence one popped up on the forums market section not long ago , the Orion SVP 16" type. Ive attached a pic, while it looks rather odd it solves the problem , I'm yet to try it in the field but it seems just as sturdy as the mount without the extension. With the mak newt I can comfortably stand with my eye at the focuser {I'm 6 1} for scale . I'm not sure if you can get this type of extension in Australia but MyAstroshop sells one that suits EQ6 mounts

Looks like a good idea unless the narrower spread of the feet compared to the height makes it unstable. However, if this happens maybe adding some weights to the tripod would help stabalise it. Maybe its good that I am just a dobber and don't have to worry about tripod feet, its bad enough worrying about my own two feet

yep Rob you would think judging by the pic there would be stability issues but its quite stable, to lift and move as a whole its quite heavy {well heavy for some }.Maybe for the scopes I have the extension could be a few inches shorter but for long refractor tubes it would be a real help.
