EQ6 Pro hassles

After the recent extreme heat in SA, I get the following hand control message:

"No link to M.C.
Stand-alone mode."

Is M.C. the motor controller?
Reboots don't help, the GPS is ignored, & I seek help from ICEers to fix this!
Is something fried?! (Eeek!).

Maybe try another hand controller but doesn't sound good. Try talking to Bintel, they may have some info.

Where abouts in Adelaide are you? Not sure what I can do although I am local and would if assist if needed. I have a spare hand controller to try although I would need to fetch it from Tanunda.

Many thanks for your super-speedy response, Bart!
I'm in Blackwood (but I used to live near Angaston and in Sedan - Eeek!)
I don't think the issue is to do with the H.C., as I kept that indoors away from the heat...

You might be better off posting this in the Equipment forum.

Check the contact points and rub them with methylated spirits, could be the contact points getting dirty.
Do as Bart suggested and try another hand set.
Do you have an EQDIR cable to test the motherboard?
Good luck.

I too had that issue once, had to send a help request to Tasco for a new Motor Control board as it seemed mine was fried.
Was an easy fix though

It probably has no connection with the hot weather[unless possibly you were doing some solar observing during the heat of the day.]
The first thing to check is the crimping of the H.C. to mount cable; this was
a frequently encountered problem with HEQ5s & NEQ6s. You need access to a pair of suitable crimping pliers, or try another cable that is known to be good.

The second likely possibility is the pair of large condensers at the bottom front of the card which is exposed when the front cover is removed. If one or both is fried, it/they will be bulging instead of parallel sided. If it/they are shot, new ones can be obtained from JCAR for about 75c each. You will need a high temperature soldering iron to replace them. If only one is shot replace both.
