G11 Mount and Tak FSQ 106

Hi All,

Well iv'e done it just ordered from Advanced Astronomy Supplies, Losmandy G11, with Maxxon Motors and Gemini go-to, and also from Astronomy Eletronics Centre, one Takahashi FSQ 106 F/5.0 (New Version)

Now it is just the waiting Game, the Mount could be here in 4-5 weeks, but the Scope will be at least 12-15 weeks, maybe longer.

Nice work Leon,
I too are waiting for the new FSQ. I've had a deposit down for two months now. Should cost around the $6-7k mark. I'm also purchasing the extender Q and the new F/3.6 focal reducer. I've also ordered the Robofocus set up for it, but will not see that until the new Q is released as the 4" focuser is apparently different to the original.

For price, you cant go wrong with the G11. Perhaps its time to ditch the 5D and get a astro camera.

Hi Leon,

Congrats. May I know more about the Maxxon motors you are mentioning ? Is that an Australian upgrade ?

Hi saludos, when i was researching the different mounts, and finally settled on the G11, it was suggested that for total accuracy and high tourque at a lower voltage the replacement of the standard motors with the Maxxon motors would be the way to go.

They are Swiss made, and the comparison is like driving a V8 rather than a 2.0 litre car.

Heaps of torque,with any amount of weight attached to the mount

Thanks. Who sells this upgrade ? I would really be interested in getting those motors.

I have been searching at many motor producers but never found a motor which fitted into the original servo motor housing of Losmandy

Do you have more info ?

Apparently the new Maxon motors are offered as an upgrade through Losmandy.

A great upgrade for those who have a heavy load stating that motor stalls are virtualy elliminated.

A worthy upgrade for the cost I think.

A few days ago I got a set of Maxxon motors from my dealer. Today I was able to install one and I will be testing it the next days.

Would be interested in knowing where these motors are available too, have not seen them mentioned on the regular sites. The extra torque would be good.

Looks like they are just a retrofit, take the old motors off and replace with the new ones.

Hi,

You get the complete motor unit as in my image and the price is US $ 240.00 + shipping and taxes.

You take of the standard servo motor and screw in the new ones. That is it.

You can not just get a Maxxon motor and exchange it inside with the standard motor. The standard motor has a diameter if 35mm and the Maxxon is 26mm and 45mm long

Also you need that tiny sprocket on the shaft which goes into the gearbox and the encoder wheel also needs to be with a bigger hole in it so it fits.

I just made more tests and yes they do work better. I had a Stall motor problem with my DEC axis and after putting the new motor in it disappeared.

WARNING even being this motors stronger do not think that you do not need to balance your mount correctly.

I have to add that my Losmandy G11 is not anymore a standard one as I developped a new worm block called RS-Wormblock which is floating against the gear and therefore I have no backlash at all and the worm adjusts more or less itself onto the gear.
