The skies are going to clear in Melbourne this week

Hi guys,

For those of you living in Melbourne I am pleased to announce that you can expect clear skies for a few weeks. Work has begun on our extension and in order to get my scope out to the back yard, I currently have to walk over broken bits of concrete, offcuts of timber, wire etc....in the dark! I hope I can get some time in over the weekend but I will have to set everything up early and then hopefully not fall over when bringing it back inside.

When it is finished it should be good though. At the moment I store the tube in a wooden box that my wife reckons looks like a coffin (and is visible from the front door). All the other bits have to be placed around this box so we don't fall over it. To get the scope outside, I have to get it around two doors, over the decking, down a couple of stairs, over the paving and onto the grass, back inside for the next load. If anyone turns on an inside light, it shines onto the yard. If the neighbour goes outside, his light comes on and the spotlight shines onto the scope.

After the new room is added, I will have a cupboard with room to store all the scope stuff. It is deep enough to store the tripod with legs spread. Shelves for the tube etc. To get it outside, I open the door and walk outside! If the neighbours light comes on, it shines onto the side of the new room. Provided no-one turns on the light in the new room, any lights in the rest of the house will be blocked by the new room.

At the same time we are pulling up the carpet, getting boards polished, new lounge suite, my computer can come out of the lounge and be setup in a corner of the new room, next to the scope (like my own office).

As a result of all this, I expect you guys can look forward to some good nights....enjoy!
