Honestly, how many people have their real photo displayed?
Hi
I know there is almost 2K members in this forum and I was wondering if I could have an honest show of hands from all those people who have genunine photographs of themselves displayed?
I doubt that the canine ones are ligitmate but am willing to count them if they claim they are the real McCoy.
Actually to seriously answer your question, it is a great way to see what 'most' of the people on the forum look like, that is those that wish to reveal themselves.
I find non-human avatars interesting too because you can use your imagination to try and figure out the person behind the post based not only on their selection of words or phrasing.
I'm interested to see what the ratio of real versus non-real is, plus or minus a few percent for those that might fib
It's harmless at the core but interesting from a study in human psychology. I have been in forums of one type or another for more than 30 years, perhaps we called them Bulletin Boards and other exotic and forgotten terms back then, but forum life closely parallels real life with the one glaring difference of 'Larger-than-life' expression of beliefs.
It's is my opinion (and mine alone) that people say (generally) things in a forum situation that they perhaps would not say in a real gathering. That is not a criticism, just an observation because I think mainly people are more reserved in what they say publicly.
The additional little bit of freedom that the forum gives you, whether you are really you or in a non de plume scenario, is a fundamental essence of a forum. The meek become mighty and the downtrodden rise up against tyranny...you know all that biblical styled stuff
Anyway, my point is, I am curious to see who has their real image displayed and who would answer that they have an image of someone else representing them. Their is nothing sinister in my motives, however it certainly would also be nice to get to 2000 replies
This thread reminds of my experiences in joining an astronomy club. I would only ever go to their dark sky events. As it was dark (and I mean "country dark") away from light polution, you'd only know people by voice or general figure.
I could seriously walk past one of the people at the dark sky event in broad daylight and still have no idea who they were by looking at their face.
