Talking Rod the Comet Catcher

Took this on Friday 19th, up at IISAC2007 on top of the mountain

1 exposure, flash used, Canon 350D + 75-300mm lens. Not quite enough DOF to get Rod in sharp focus, I was too close to him

I think he sent this image around his office

Reminds me of the Hindu creation story, where the God Vishnu incarnates as a giant turtle supporting the world.

And no, I'm not saying there are any similarities between Rod and a turtle...

Cheers

Dennis

PS – Careful Mike – in 1000’s of year’s time, your photo, which may be all that is left of our civilization, may be discovered and construed as proof that we were a race of giants that could reach up into the heavens and pluck comets from their orbits….

I had a similar idea - photos coming once I scan the slides at higher resolution. Yes, hard to get comet and foreground in sharp focus and well exposed when one's lens is wide open!

Great shot Mike!

By the look of it though, Rod was getting a bit red behind the ear from the strain of it all.

Maybe next time someone could stand in just the right position for the comet to come out of their nose, now theres a photographic opportunity, just waiting to happen.

Comet McCaught!

It kept swirling in the air.....you know how it is...very hard to catch with the stars in your eyes....but with soft hands I would have caught it had it not changed course suddenly at the end, and headed behind the far hill.

Nice effort, Rod.

Never easy to take those high catches in the outfield with the crowd jeering and the starlight right in your eyes
