Aussie Dollar Galaxy

Here's my take on NGC 253 Sculptor Galaxy (aka Silver Dollar Galaxy). I've probably gone overboard with the saturation but that's OK because our dollars aren't silver anyway!

This was a relatively brief run of
  • 26x 120s Lum
  • 12x 120s R
  • 12x 120s G
  • 12x 120s B

Full size version is on astrobin.

Nice shot Kevin.

I've had to have early nights but I really want this one with my latest scope.

A very fine result Kevin.

A close examination of the histogram shows that you can safely make the background much darker without any information loss.

Thanks Kevin. Which scope is that? I would have liked a little more focal length than the 550mm of my Esprit.

Thanks Mike and Trish. I collected this data at the end of a run of another target and stopped at 3am not expecting I had enough. I did a quick process this morning to see what I had and was pleasantly surprised (which is why I posted it). I still plan to get more data and will do a more thorough process then.

Cheers, Kevin

I have a loan of a deforked Meade LX90 ACF 8" F10 SCT. 2000mm FL. Should fit it in nicely.

Yep that should do it well. I've bought time on a Planewave CDK 431 mm (2912mm focal length) at iTelescope. I'll use my Esprit data with that and see what happens. I've combined lum data so far and it's looking good!
