It rises at 17.10 EST, eclipse starts at 17.49.8m EST. Middle of eclipse at 19.54.8m. Ends at 21.59.8m EST. Just need a good easterly horizon. But don't expect too much. Only be a very slight darkening around mid-eclipse.
All from your Astronomy 2005 books.

i heard about it from a friend who sent me the URL.

UT is the same as GMT afaik.

hence the eclispe starts at 7:49 UT, add 10 hrs as were GMT + 10 hrs (11 hrs for in daylight savings), and viola 17:49 EST.

Hi all. A quick report on the sa(i)d event. 5 W.A.A.C.ers turned up at the designated site, sat down & talked while the moon rose out of the distant sea mist that covered the horizon to about 5degs. It was a lovely orange/copper colour in the mist but as it rose higher, it became it's usual yellow/off white.
Neil set-up his LX 8" & we all had a quick look at Saturn, Jupiter & the moon.
Rowena, (proud 2nd hand owner of 10" LX200), took some pics. of us & the moon.
Neil also brought along his laptop, so we had a look at Starry Nights to see where in the world the total eclipse would occur, but nothing showed up.(Neil's fault)!
Well, the moon rose ever higher, as is the norm, but nothing seemed to change much, just got brighter. There was a "ssslight darkening" effect, but due to a light cloud cover coming in at around 8.30, we decided to give the rest of the event a miss.
Left at around 9.00pm.
All in all, up to it's usual non event.
Please, don't tell me when the next partial is on!
Still, it does get you out of the house for a while.
Regards, L.

The Moon did show some darkening - as with most eclipses of the Moon, the unaided eye is the best view.

Great photo Argonavis!!
but you queenslanders have done it again, not only do you bend bananas but also change the moon. Or was it for the northern hemishpere viewers? I suppose we are just south of the border!

Argonavis I suppose how much something is bent is really subjective to your own viewpoint. I mean what looks normal to me may in fact be quite different to someone else, like bananas, to us they are probably bent but in another universe with the space/time curve bent they are probably straight. So considering Queensland does not have AEDST they then exist in a different time field. Therefore your view MUST be the correct one!
