McNaught from the land of the long white cloud

And thank goodness that that long white cloud hasn't impeded this spectacle too much. If anything it is the smoke etc from you guys giving us less than perfect views.
Last night I used the FC100 Takahashi, and Canon 20D, plus an AP telecompressor. The image is good, but tonight I wanted to give some idea of the size and scale, so used the Canon 70-200L at about 70mm.
The tail really is great, and I just hope that next few nights are clear.
Get out and witness this event.
Gary

Crikey Gary, trust a kiwi to put the aussies to shame. The first one is a great shot, but that second one

That is really stunning man. What I wouldn't give to get enough clear sky to get a shot like that in.

Thanks team. It really is an awesome sight, and has generated a heap of interest locally. Everyone remembers Halleys Comet for some strange reason.

Amazing, speechless.
Could you advise details of your setup. How did you get that huge tail to show up.. amazing.

Simple Net,
for the wider of the two shots, I used a stock 20D Canon, and off the shelf 70-200L zoom, at F4. 30 seconds exposure at ISO100.
Camera was mounted on top of the Takahashi refractor (piggyback if you like), as I had taken a few through the refractor first, then switched to "wide-mode". The scope and camera were riding on the Takahashi EM200 Temma mount, so the longer exposures didn't trail.
In Photoshop I used the Levels, and Curves to bring out a little extra detail.
Anyone can do this, it is just a matter of getting out there.
