Poor spider

The first time I came up here (Tabulam) with the eight inch f5 I did a short capture of the spider and along with most of the early stuff from the thru it out in an effort to tidy up and organise fo rthe future.

But this morning I found this which is all that remains.

It was the result of a number of 30 second captures and early attempts at processing in light room..unfortunately I cropped it and well just ruined it I guess...

but in an effort to show some result and show what one can get with short unguided exposures..so if starting and you cant get perfect alignment so longer subs are not possible I suggest simply drop exposure time until the stars dont trail and at least you will get a reasonably sharp not trailed image.

So have a go.

And although it has problems I am happy with how crisp it was now that I look more closely.

On closer examination the stars could be better it seems like a cllmination issue.

Alex, looks OK for a few subs, why not try and back off the black clipping so the background is more grey and you should reveal some more details.

Cheers

Iwould if I knew what black clipping was

Looking back it was a funny time I had absolutely no idea how to use the software..not much better now..well a little better as hopefully I can show if I ever get to capture anything.

I was hopeful of getting something decent to work with this trip but alas not to be...

It's not a great image but we can tell what it is so congrats on making use of the data, Alex

Thank you for the encouragement Rick I certainly do appreciate you taking the time to do so.

I wish I had not trashed so much stuff from last time up but I really believed I would get longer subs etc have the auto guide working lower iso etc etc..

as it turns out my very first captures of the Horse Head was probably the best data and certainly it would have benefited from the few processing skills I have achieved since my start this time around.

I am lucky in so far as I am easily pleased at the moment. In fact I was hoping to get the full Moon..anything... but no just cloud.

I mean I would be even more pleased if I could get some clear sky before I return to Sydney.

All I wanted was some reasonable data to practise on...

Thanks again.

Thanks Peter I was bored as you can guess...It has been so disappointing with so much preparation and buying the gear...two new scopes, one new mount, new guide camera, new guide scop, new flexible groovy solar panel, a sweet little inverter, six tent poles and tarp, a little table and a head light and more..

It all started when I bought new solar panels for the house...you sure notice the weather when you are into astronomy and live with solar power.

But maybe when back in Sydney I will appreciate some clear sky ...all good.

Thanks again.
