They're a great all purpose camera with a huge optical zoom.I bought the lighter coolpix b700 and took a similar shot last year on 60x optical zoom.
heres the picture .

Well that is certainly impressive, maybe i should look into one of those instead of chasing Lenses.

I was looking into a macro lens but for less money saw a little camera that was exceptional and made more sense.

It is worth having a look around.

Hand held with the standard lens I think it was at 600mm f6.5 when the shot was taken need to check the EXIF
