A target for February?

The success of the Horse Head exercise goes on but what should we attempt during the next dark come February?
Any suggestions?
Alex

What about Eta Carinae ..Alex..big and bright .
Just one you could consider on your list...will it fit your field of view though?

Eta Carina might be good. Most of us seem to be short focal length so will have some nice large FOV shots.

Edit: plus I've already started on it. He he !

Thats ok.
I simply see an oppprtunity to encourage folk to have a go.
But know this I am looking at vans next week and seeking high ground out West and in March hope to drive it up one of those big mountains in Chile...
No of course not and I think rivalry although neat is not what it need be about.

I am going to try doing a capture with the camera hand held, short exposure, high iso when on the dark just to see what can be done maybe some static tripod shots to encourage folk to have a go.

Anyways I am the example that any mug can have a go and get some sort of result. You other guys are on the road to expert and future contendets in the Malin awards.
All good.

The Rosette is a nice target for a short refractor at this time of year, or the Seagull. Both large, a bit more challenging because of their surface brightness.

So we have a new moon on Fri. 16th Feb.
Plenty of dark skies ahead!

I vote for Eta Carinae and like Chris already have lots of data.
It's high in the sky.
Also might point down a bit and snap the Jewel Box just for fun.

HOwever, your call X (no pressure) :-)

I like those suggestions + Jewel Box. Be good to see how we can resolve star colour in this open cluster

Or Dunk suggested the Seagull and Rosette. We had the Rosette in December.
Maybe we could add the Seagull, or do it instead of Eta Carina? The Seagull I imagine will be challenging and is in an optimal position Jan/Feb, while Eta Carina is good for a while yet.

I'm easy - whatever others would like.

With you Chris - never done IC2177

Fits in with where we live, have some chips in your pocket.

Might have my new scope operating by then (see the DIY forum).
