What was that?

Something quite bright just moved through the eastern sky quite close to Sirius ... about 8.54pm

Was it an Iridium or ISS?

There is an Iridium flare about 2215 tonight, -8, ESE, 40 degrees up, Iridium 57

Cheers

Well ... technically Houghy did in another post and I raced back here to let people know that I'd found my answer... before people went to the trouble of trying to figure out what I'd seen

Er... No I'm not, Ed.

I attached my original quote to demonstrate (for you) that the matter had been sorted.

All I've done is quote myself...

Anyway... enjoy the sky

Yes, I saw it too :-) I was out at Murrumbateman, had just finished setting up the scope and was relaxing in a chair admiring the view (as one does), and saw the thing go over. Was very bright!

When it went past sirius it was clearly a more yellow colour than sirius due to reflected sunlight. Made quite a show.

Then later on I was outside again when the iridium flare happened. Boy, that one caught me off guard! Took a few moments to figure out what it was, they're very bright!

cheers, Bird

I also had a look for Iridum 57.

It didn't "flare up" nearly as bright as the suggested -8.

Mustn't have been as good from my location
