The Belt and Sword of Orion - WIP

All,

Oh, boy. Am I excited about this.

This is a test image, which has been pushed quite a bit, but, there's enough signal there to handle it.

It is a four-panel mosaic, thus far, of the glorious Horsehead Nebula (B33/NGC2023) and the Orion Nebula (M42) region.

There are a lot of errors in this image, which you most likely won't pick up as it's quite downsampled. The original image is close to 8,000 pixels in width and 5,000 pixels in height.

Clearly, the Orion Nebula's core is blown; I will need to take much shorter exposures to bring detail back into the core of M42.

So far, this is 25 hours of hydrogen alpha data that I've captured over the last few months.

Looking forward to capturing more data, and, to finally presenting colour, in a few months time.

Larger version available here.

Oh, and, yeah -- this hasn't even made it to Photoshop, yet -- this is all just in PixInsight.

Thanks for looking!

H

Amazing! The "fox fur" like passages along the bottom and right are beautiful.

Best,

Shots like this are quintessential Astrophotography in my book.

It reveals fantastic vistas that are normally hidden to the unaided eye...and camera for that matter...

Wonderful stuff H.

Hi Humayun,
That is already spectacular -
it will be amazing when you add the color.
You wouldn't think there was so much Ha to pick up in the whole picture.

cheers
Allan

Remarkable H.

I like the way you put all your effort into one image. Its going to be well worth the effort.
