this may seem a stupid question and when using an auto guider on a meade lx200 should the key pad direction buttons be reversed for southern hemisphere

In auto guiding you would only use the keypad for goto and to center the object, your guide camera, and computer make the adjustments to the mounts tracking directly (not through the hand set).

As long as your guide app uses pulseguiding or ST4 guiding, the Rev L/R or Rev U/D settings have no effect on serial commands sent from the guider.
