It's a bit chicken and egg problem: I've bought stuff because I needed to change a few things, but I waited until this time of year since I knew the weather was likely to be lousy.

Or am I just making things worse?

Well, technically speaking it was a few weeks ago, not last week. Some of it is taking a while to arrive though. Does that still count?

^^^^Canberra now. The kit in question must of been small but expensive, it’s beautiful just now.

Well my attempt to get back into astro photography required a new scope (8 inch f5 and coma corrector, a new camera, nikon 24 meg, a finder guider, and guide camera, and a new lap top to auto guide process etc., mount pull down and service (now multiple times) and apart from one night where it all came together and all worked allowing me to take a few subs of part of the sky above (not even a specific object just stars to trial things) ... yes one night only with everything more or less working... the rest cloudy..I would be happy if it was clear and full Moon at least I could capture something...
A good night I have defined as a night where the gaps in the clouds allow short moments of involvement in the sport.
I cant even test and tune...

Alex it seems you have finally understood the true meaning of what I wrote to another here on IIS - if you go down the AP path, be prepared to flog everything and start afresh. All of it.

FWIW if you are wondering why the gods are displeased, I ordered a Berlebach tripod early in September... seems to be on a very slow boat from Europe - ETA here is December (!)

The one positive note I have is that out of 5 serious outings with my new treasure, 3 nights have turned on exquisite seeing to the extent I decided to buy two eyepieces that give 330 and 450X - and that's without a barlow.

FedEx if you are reading this, please buy DHL and kill them off.
